Service, My Reason to Attend College by Mercedes - January 2018 Scholarship Essay
The word that most describes why I wish to attend college is service. Going to college to receive my Criminal Justice degree will help me serve my community. Community service has been an important part in my life since middle school. I enjoy helping others in any way that I am able to. Serving over four hundred hours in community service, in the past seven years, has made me realize how incredibly rewarding it is. Acting as security at church events, painting children’s faces, serving at Convoy of Hope, serving food to those in need, among lots of other things gave me great joy. Knowing that our local community was benefiting from big things, that I had a small hand in, made my heart feel wonderful.
Upon completing my degree in college, I plan to utilize my service by keeping our community safe. Helping and aiding those who are in need, giving the public comfort in knowing someone is there to make things better. Being a part of a law enforcement agency will help me, not only give back to my community, but allow me to achieve my dream: Making the world a better place, in which we live, one day at a time through the act of service.
