When Class Becomes Interesting by Melody - August 2013 Scholarship Essay

I am one of those students who has taken longer to finish school than normal.  Life has gotten in the way.  Through my scattered years of classes one lesson stands out above the rest.  I was taking a leadership class and the teacher had all the students take personality profile and strengths tests.  When the test results came up and I read through them it was like looking at myself in a mirror.  For the first time in my life I could see exactly who I was and why I think and react the way I do.  The teacher put us together into groups with other students who tested out the same as us.  It was so amazing to meet others who think and act like I do.  We then looked at the other test results and how they applied to the students who received them.  This lesson totally changed the way I look at other people and how we all interact.  It changed my outlook at work and everywhere else.  Handing life changing information to students and watching the light bulb turn on in that "Aha" moment is the greatest thing a teacher can do.  That class was my "Aha" moment making it the most interesting lesson I have ever had.
