Me by Melissa - September 2022 Scholarship Essay

Looking back at my younger self, I regret doing the things I did or wished I could’ve done better. If I had the opportunity to sit in a room and give my past self advice, I would. Not everyone is perfect, and no one ever will be. There will be times where we would feel sorrow for the things we have done and satisfaction for the things we have accomplished to get to where we are at.

One piece of advice I’d give my past self would be, don’t listen to what others say. I would say paying attention to other people’s opinions played a really key role in my life. It held me back from accomplishing so many things. Overthinking and questioning myself whether I was good enough was a challenging thing I dealt with. At such a youthful age, I was being pushed to be successful. Listening to what others said to see if I would do it or not.

Blocking away others’ opinions really helped me see the future way clearer. I was open to more opportunities. The moral of the story, always follow what your heart desires despite what others have to say. If you want to do something, go for it. Never give up on your dreams just because someone else does not feel the same way in what you want to do. It is your life, and you get to make the decisions that will impact your future.
