Procrastination Nation by Melina - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

“New year, new me!!” Right? Well, not usually. We’ve all heard it before, “I want to lose 60 pounds this year!” “I’m going to find the love of my life this year!” “I’ll finally get that promotion this year!” But how often does it REALLY happen? That’s why when I said “I’ll finally stop procrastinating this year!” I took my own statement with a grain of salt. Except this time, it really did happen.
Miraculous, I know. But now that I’m in my senior year of high school, I realized that it was now or never. I finally started pushing myself to my limits. In my head it was a constant battle between
“You can do it at home!”
“Yeah, but you WON’T do it at home!”
It’s always been quite a vicious cycle. But now that I have broken through the cycle, I am emerging victorious and I can safely say that I will not be returning to a life where deadlines occupy my thoughts at all times. This is one New Year’s resolution that I know that I can keep. The stress has been lifted off my shoulders and now that I’m looking my freshman year of college straight in the face, I have faith that I can keep pushing through to achieve the seemingly impossible. And yes, that includes procrastinating.
