Furthering the Future for our Youth by Megan - June 2023 Scholarship Essay

Growing up in southwest Africa, in what is still till this day considered a developing country, I have experienced and witnessed apparent limitations that restrict and obstruct the personal attainment of countless individuals, including myself.

During high school I set out achievable and self-supporting goals for myself, which I intended to reach. I never fully mapped out or considered the difficulties that may arise for a foreigner, as these goals involved moving to the United States by myself, at the age of eighteen.

I knew in order to reach my full potential, I had to get out of my comfort zone, and therefore abandon everything and everyone I had ever known. I selfishly chose to do this as I knew the limitations attached to remaining in Namibia.

In America, the opportunity to succeed is incomparable to resources available, speaking from experience, in any country in Africa.

By taking a leap of faith and putting myself out there, through dedication and perseverance, I have already achieved what I once thought was impossible.

I have been introduced to avenues which were once beyond my reach, due to my education in America. I am not limited to education and certain careers because of my heritage. I plan on applying my education to assisting the underprivileged youth of Africa, to be well-informed on their possibilities.

By furthering my education and being awarded a degree in Business Intelligence and Analytics, I truthfully see myself having the capabilities to further excel in a career-path I have continuously been intrigued and motivated by, while also being taught the needed skills which will enable me to further reach out and influence the lives of the disadvantaged youth of Africa.

The informed decision-making and evaluation of future trends or indicators of a corporation’s success have been my sole focus as my current role involves predictions of consumer’s future interests, and thus, demands. By mastering the art of predictive measuring, I will confidently be able to further serve as an asset to decision-making operations that involve public outreach, and successful promotion strategies aimed at marketing and advocating for equality.

In ten years from now I see myself as an active advocate and philanthropist, ensuring that each and every child, no matter their history or current locality, has the opportunity to choose and determine their future. This will be possible by providing easily-accessible information, not limited or restricted by outside components. I believe that by being adequately informed on different options, which relates to the different choices we make, adjusts your perspective and allows one to reach further than your surroundings you have been accustomed to.

The Masters in Business Intelligence and Analytics that I will be pursuing, starting August 2023, will allow me to further make more informed decisions on how to properly reach the youth through advantageous and efficient strategies.

Everyone is entitled to further their knowledge, no matter the subject, and I know that I will be able to further assist in providing sufficient material to those who lack them, which will in turn allow many to pursue a dream they may have found unachievable, due to their originating circumstances. The circumstances of a particular situation are the conditions which affect what happens next. I aim to use my voice and inform the youth, who may be affected by the circumstances arising from the actions of others, about the possibilities of their future. These possibilities do not involve a future compelled and influenced by an ascendancy or restricted free will.
