Balloon Ready to Burst by Megan - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

A bombardment of questions swirling around my mind, incessant interrogation by family and friends, constant wondering and surmounting pressure, feeling like a balloon filled too full, leaving you to anxiously wait for the big burst of relief. Majority of high school students endure this stress of planning out their journey after high school, bearing the numerous questions of “Where will you go?” More air is put into the balloon. “What will you study?” Even more air. “How long will you go to school for?” Somehow, even more air. Despite my doubts of never coming across something that would interest me enough to truthfully answer what I would like to study, I found my burst of relief when a door to the Business world was opened to me.
Rewinding to the start of my Sophomore year of high school, I had taken a Career Pathways class. Nothing of particular interest to me, until I was presented with my results to a test that suggested careers based upon my personality. My top most results all fell into the realm of Business, more specifically Business management. I didn’t think much of it, however I ended up becoming a member of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA.) Within this club, I competed on the state level, presenting my research upon business management positions, and I placed silver within the competition. Fast forward to my Senior year, the decision to what I would study in college was due. I felt like that balloon that just couldn’t relieve the pressure, up until I found the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management. I was able to have my major be in Pre-Business, and once my classes were all set, my balloon finally was able to pop, providing relief. The balloon popping even felt like there was confetti inside of it! I was so excited to be focusing on studies that would be enhancing my natural strengths like interpersonal skills and ability to plan and organize, and be able to set myself up to be in a career pathway I will enjoy. Once all my classes were set up and I was enrolled, I decided I had a goal of maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA throughout college in order to help set myself up for success in the near, as well as far, future. I could not be more excited for my college balloon to pop with more confetti when I achieve my aspirations and can enter the world of Business confidently.
