How Social Media Has Impacted The Way I Learn by Megan - March 2022 Scholarship Essay

Social media has a defined impact on learning in both positive and negative forms. Since social media is found in nearly every aspect of one's life today, so finding ways to overcome obstacles related social media is necessary. The advantages, for me, outweigh the disadvantages, when it comes to social media and how it has impacted my learning thus far.
Some of the advantages of social media include the ability to quickly share new ideas, plans, processes and other things that lead to positive learning experiences and helps to foster retention of information. Social media can be used an an educational tool to engage others in social networking in order to collaborate on classroom projects, group projects that need to be completed. Another great advantage of social media related to learning is for sorting information and organization. Social media accounts can help keep information well organized and information can easily be sorted through.
A major disadvantage of social media is distraction. There are many extra avenues not related to learning on social media that can lead to major distractions while trying to focus on learning. Another advantage is a possibility of addiction. Although I do not have an issue with this, it is something that is a real concern, and an issue that I worry about with my peers, at times.
Although there are some disadvantages to social media and learning, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages for me. I have been able to network, stay organized, and learned a great deal from my peers through social media through my high school years. I look forward to continuing to use social media as a learning platform in my college career.
