My Future in Conservation by Megan - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
The future is unpredictable, nothing is set in stone. However, the present paves the path towards the future. Every little thing that occurs, contributes to future outcomes. I'm studying Environmental Science at Oakland University, soon with a minor in Geology.
I’ve always seen myself working within a National Park to help with conservation. It is my goal to do wildlife conservation or invasive species removal as a future career. Recently, I traveled to Biscayne National Park to participate in cleaning the beaches of sea turtle nesting sites. That experience was extremely rewarding and made me realize just how much I love my major. I can see myself cleaning beaches and helping marine species for the rest of my life.
Whether I do end up in a national park like Biscayne, or if I end up working somewhere else, as long as I am helping the environment, I will be happy. In 10 years, I do hope to be working somewhere I can contribute to the health and safety of the environment. It has always been a dream to work at Yellowstone National Park. So, in 10 years, I will be removing invasive plant species, participating in wildlife rehabilitation, and environmental conservation within Yellowstone National Park. It is a goal of mine to make a difference in the environment within my career.
