Get Involved! by Megan - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
As an incoming high school freshman, you are embodied by so many different feelings including anxiety, stress, and excitement. To accompany this stress, but ease it as well, I would encourage any freshman in high school to get involved. From sports to theatre to student government, there are so many options and the more that you do, the better. Getting involved can benefit your social life, your academics and your high school experience.
Getting involved gives you so many opportunities to make new friends, which gives you academic and social benefits. Through making new friends, you are able to find study help easier and different people with different strengths in areas that you might not be so strong in. You also gain social benefits because you know people and through those people, you meet more people and so on. Having the opportunity to make new friends opens doors to a variety of other places and volunteering that you can get involved in.
Academics are something that, as a student wanting a career in the future, you can never avoid. Sometimes, people aren't good at academics! This is where getting involved can help you or anyone. Getting involved can help you meet people who know about a subject that you are struggling in or help you meet people who had the same teacher that is giving you a rough time. It can also help with the cost of college. As we all know, college is expensive. Being involved in numerous activities can really show scholarship competition judges that you are the one who deserves the prize and that you are the one who worked the hardest.
Overall, high school is one time of your life that you will never forget. The experience of it is so important and to make that experience the best that it can be, I encourage anyone to get involved. It will bring you more happiness and less time to worry because you will be so busy with everything that you are involved in. It does not matter what you are involved in, as long as it is something that you love and enjoy doing.
In conclusion, involvement can benefit you in your academics, social life and your high school experience. With academics, you get potential study buddies. With your social life, you get many new friends. With your high school experience, you get overall optimism and less time to stress. I would encourage any incoming high school freshman to get involved because it will make your high school years some of the best years of your life.
