Morning Person by Megan - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
I find myself more productive in the morning, and I would consider myself a morning person. As long as I don’t snooze my alarm and start my day with a good attitude, I can complete so many tasks before the afternoon. Because everything is done by the evening, I get to enjoy the rest of the day stress free.
Once I wake up, I start my day off right with a healthy breakfast and some yoga to get my body moving and to be mentally ready for what is to come. I then make a to-do list on my phone so that I have a direction on where my day is headed. On my list, it usually has items such as; homework, chores, work, errands, dance class, a workout, plans with friends, and anything else I need or want to do that day. Having a list laid out for me each day helps me so much to not forget about anything that was expected of me to do in that day. When I used to not make lists, I would forget one of my chores and have to do it when I’m finally winded down after I thought I was done with my daily tasks; that was never fun.
When I wake up and start moving, I notice that I have much more energy and motivation in the morning than if I were to start my tasks in the afternoon. Even when I have school in the mornings and don’t get home till the evening, I act as if that is the start of the day again and get to work on my homework and chores. I have heard it from multiple sources so many times, that if you make your bed the first thing in the morning, your day will be so much more productive. I really believe in this theory because it’s like the first thing on your to-do list checked off immediately. Once you feel good about accomplishing only one little item, you feel inspired and motivated to just take it step by step to complete the rest.
I am much more productive during the mornings because it allows me to enjoy my evenings much more if I know that I have had a productive day. It is not as enjoyable if I still have that one item on my list that I didn’t get to because I know that I will have to do it the next day. That is a horrible feeling that I avoid at all costs because I like to start fresh each day. If I get my things done as early as possible and don’t procrastinate, I can really unwind every night with the only stress of what movie I want to watch.
If I were to be a night owl and start my tasks later in the day, I would feel overwhelmed and rushed with the short amount of time to do such things. I also find myself less inspired and motivated to start making my bed and do my homework when I’ve already wasted half my day. This leaves no relaxing time, just procrastinating and rushing to get my things done.
Even know I really would rather sleep in everyday, I find myself being more of a morning person that a night owl because I love the feeling of being prepared and having the day tackled by lunch time; or on school days, before dinner time. I value my spare time and love to spend it with my family or with friends. For me it is important to be on top of my responsibilities and have them done and prepared so that I can be as stress free as possible.
