Believe in Yourself by Megan - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

I am currently a freshman at the College of Charleston. My senior year of high school, I submitted a quote to the yearbook as my senior quote. What was my quote? My quote was a lyric from a song that I thought was funny. Looking back now, I regret this decision because the quote says nothing about me. If I had the chance to submit a quote again, I would use “always believe in yourself.” It’s simple and the message is clear. No matter what happens, if you can believe in yourself then you’re going to be okay.

Going through high school, I faced many challenges. The schoolwork was not hard but friend groups kept changing, trouble arised at home, and my grandmother’s health was declining. Going through all these troubles, I felt so alone at the time because I felt I had no one to talk to that cared. The thing that I kept telling myself was that I am strong enough to endure this and that I will get through it. I believe that everything happens for a reason and being able to look back on my experiences, I have learned so much through my tough times. Life has completely turned around by now, I am so happy at my dream school and I can finally say that I have the best friends ever. Obviously, I am grateful that the tough time is over but going through obstacles in life is just a part of living. They make you even more grateful for the life you have. I have become so much more confident in myself and I know I am so strong and can handle anything life throws at me. I want to share with everyone that as long as you believe in yourself you can get through whatever you are going through, which is why I would make that my yearbook quote.
