#buildingme by Megan - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
I chose the words “building me” for my hashtag. Most students do not regard their education as important. They believe high school is a place that exists only to have a good time. Generally students do not take their grades seriously and put little effort into what they do. If they are involved in other activities they usually do the bare minimum required to be involved in a sport or club. There are those kids though who care about their grades and being successful. There are those kids who try and do their very best, and still not have a good grade. But those kids are still receiving an education. They have learned things. I chose “building me” because receiving an education builds a person in multiple ways. Students become more knowledgeable, they are given the ability to form opinions and think for themselves, and most importantly it teaches us life lessons. Since I have been in highschool I have learned many things not taught in a textbook or by a teacher. I have been taught the ability to multitask, I have learned people skills, and I have learned where my priorities in life are at. My education has built me. It has formed me into the person that I am today. WIthout the education that I was given, I would not be the person that I am today.
