More then what I ought to do, but what I want to do. by Megan - June 2013 Scholarship Essay
Hello. I am a 23 year old female and my name is Megan. I am currently in the process of moving on towards my Bachelors degree in school to assist in people’s health and wellness lifestyles. My intent is to get as many people as possible excited about living a healthy life and helping them realize it is more than doable. My issue has never been about not enough passion to pursue an education or lack of curiosity with learning and books, but lack of the crazy amount of money it costs to go to college. College. College! College? What on earth does it mean to go to college? Well, it could just be the simple act of going to school at a specific campus and learning in your degree area. It could mean what your parents thought you ought to do. It could mean that it is something you MUST do to succeed financially in this life. For me though, it’s about want. I want to go to college. So it is much more than just going to a campus because of someone’s direct or indirect influence, or IT being the it or MUST thing to do. It is a passion of mine to continue my education. I have always loved learning new things by reading books and watching documentaries. Knowledge is the force that kills ignorance, and ignorance is extremely close to the greatest threat in my opinion. Going to college means learning more knowledge, and I want to go to college because I love knowledge! I love knowledge so much that I would go to school forever if I could, but that’s why we are capable of autodidactic abilities; to learn things on our own. I think going to college should be about personal want. If you go for someone else you are setting up for failure. I want to go to college and I want to learn to help others in my path through holistic nutrition and wellness. People deserve to feel good about themselves, and I want to show them how to achieve that, but first I need to go for my degree to be able to help them appropriately and with the right expertise. That is what I thinking this going to college thing is all about. Thank you.
