My degree is for the future by McKenna - October 2024 Scholarship Essay
Currently being in college, I whole heartedly understand the struggle of being in an environment where you get very little praise and encouragement. The meaning of having a degree seems far out of reach in the middle of it all. However I like to believe that having a college degree helps you later on in life. For me, my degree will help me know I can overcome obstacles. Getting through college is a big obstacle for me and having a degree shows the world but most importantly myself that I can do hard things. Working on my major in college which is speech pathology, has inspired and challenged me. I've seen the benifit of really understanding my field of study and how passion plays a role in this field. To me a degree represents both. There's an aspect of knowledge but also passion when it comes to earning a degree. Problem solving, and navigating new situations are all skills that will come up again in life and the process of getting one’s degree is practice for greater things in life. It's not promised that having a degree will open doors for jobs but there's so many valuable lessons in the process of getting a degree. Depsite jobs not being promised people pour so much time into these passions and that is a very beautiful thing. I believe there's lots of benifits to having a degree and whatever motivates you is totally acceptable.
