Fiction vs. Nonfiction by Mayra - July 2013 Scholarship Essay

Summer of 8th Grade we were required to read the first book of The Hunger Games, but reading was never really my thing, especially when it came to the books that the school made us read. Surprisingly, I was hooked on the book and from there I bought the other two series that followed. I realized that if I were ever to start reading and choosing my own book it’d have to be fiction. The Hunger Games, inquired a sense of fantasy and love through a series of games that forced 24 members of 12 districts to kill each other just so they could survive. The fact that love struck two players in the game was problematic because there could only be one member. Egoistic and dramatic scenes were really the only reason I kept reading. You can call me a sucker for drama, but I couldn’t drop the books, then I soon realized that I was finished. When you finish a good book you wish it never ended. Maybe it’s more of unexpected love in books that I’m in love with. Though there is only three Hunger Games books, I’m still waiting for the author to write a continuance to the series of books.
