My Future in 405 Words by Maya - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
Being seventeen years old it’s hard to believe that in ten years I will be in the midst of my career and will be an adult. Ever since I was little I’ve dreamt of what that would look like. My imagination would roam from teacher to president to even a police officer. I nearly planned everything out in my head by the time I turned 10. After high school I would attend a four year university and get my education degree, and become a fifth grade teacher. However, over time I matured and realized that I would make a terrible teacher. I also discovered somewhat the value of money and the terror of debt. I still wanted formal education, but I was lost in where it would lead. Most teenagers feel this twinge of fear when they don’t know where life will take them. My twinge was a never ending throb that would torment me for quite some time. After taking countless of these “find your career answering these 50 questions” websites, I believed it would be hopeless in finding what I wanted to do.
No one told me during all of that stress that I don’t need to decide as soon as June 12th when I walk across the stage at graduation. Realizing that towards the end of my Junior year seemed to have cured that throbbing fear. Now that I look into what my future professionally might look like, I make no definitive plans because you never know where life will take you. Also being me, I have a rough draft just in case everything goes perfectly. I plan to receive my associates degree at Clackamas Community College, then transfer to a university in Italy to study Economics for three years. After that I will try to search for a job as an economist anywhere I can, and ultimately the goal is to be an economic consultant for the US government or become a market research analysts for a non-profit organization, such as the Mercy Corp. Of course this being a rough draft my future might seem unclear, but I know that my goal not just for the next ten years, but in life will be to help people in any way that I can. I think with my specific skills and the right schooling I can accomplish that and become a person that my ten year old self would be proud of.
