#chance by Maya - April 2018 Scholarship Essay

To me, education means the chance to succeed in life and help others succeed as well. A substantial education is the easiest way to thrive in the United States and those without a proper education, often end up in poverty. Ironically, those in poverty are often the ones who cannot afford a substantial education thus continuing the vicious cycle. The more educated a person is means the more money they can make, which means the more they can thrive in life. My education has always been important to me because I know that the more educated I am, the more chances I have to do something that matters while still passionate about it. Today those with high school diploma’s are limited to only a certain number of jobs and the restriction on employment keeps going up as the education level drops. Those with a higher education know what they deserve for their work and know how to get it. Those with a higher education also have the chance to help those who are uneducated. Whether it be direct help, like becoming a teacher, or indirect help, such as scholarships to help give money to those who want an education but can’t afford it, the educated have the responsibility to help those in need. I chose #chance for this essay because to me, education gives young adults the chance to become something greater than themselves; it helps them to unlock their fullest potential and how to help others excel as well.
