George Washington Reigns by Maya - October 2017 Scholarship Essay
Throughout history, there have been precisely 48 U.S. Presidents. Each and everyone has made an influential impact on the beautiful land that we call the United States of America today. Every president tries their hardest to make the right choices, even if society disagree, they stand up for what is right in their eyes. I think with every president, there is something that they leave, whether it be a legacy or a simple deed that they did to better our country.
If I could have dinner with one U.S. President (living or not) it would be George Washington. There are numerous reasons why I would want to eat with the man of our nation. George Washington was born in the small county, Westmoreland, located in Virginia. George Washington was believe to be the underdog because he wasn't the most intellectual person but that didn't stop him. As he faced challenegs, he noticed he had the characteristics of a leader, though this was the case, he had never commanded a large army in the battlefield. He had dedication and persistence that led him to go forward with leading the army. With this being said, he served as a general and commander-in-chief of the colonial armies during the American Revolution. Not only did he play a leading military role, but he also played a political role. George Washington's actions during the American Revolutionary led to a victory for the United States. After serving in the army, George Washington became the first president of the United States of America and ever since, he has reigned in history.
With everything that I said, those are just some of the reasons why I would want to have dinner with George Washington. His outstanding qualities of leadership is what I strive to have as I grow as a person. I would talk to him on how he made such quick decisions and what impacted those decisions. I would ask questions such as, "Were you ever scared of the unknown?". I would want to know how he overcame diversity and what kept him going to strive for success in all aspects of his life. Most importantly, I would want to thank him for everything that he has done for this country. I would want him to know that he has not been forgotten, that he will forever be remembered. After all, he is the face of our currency, he appears large on Mt. Rushmore and he's one of the founding Fathers of our Country. Last but not least, if I were to take one quality from George Washington, it would be his confidence. He had confidence in the new government and that led him to trust and succeed. If one has confidence, they can do anything they set their mind to, and that is what I strive to have as I begin a new chapter in my life, college.
