Lucky to Be at Baruch by Matthew - August 2020 Scholarship Essay

I am a rising sophomore at Baruch College in New York City, and I plan to major in finance. I aspire to work as a financial analyst once I graduate college in 2023. If I do pursue a master’s degree, I would like to enroll in Baruch’s Master’s of Science (MS) in Finance program. The program is affordable, and the school has received statewide and national recognition. These characteristics appeal to me and many other students who plan to take this academic path.
My family and I are struggling financially, so I feel very fortunate that I attend Baruch College because the annual tuition is affordable compared to that of most colleges and universities. I would like to be able to afford to study for my master’s degree as well. The cost for tuition and fees for the Master’s of Science programs is approximately $11,450 (2019-2020). Once I have my own job and income, I will be able to afford to study for my MS in Finance while sustaining myself in the future. I can advance in my career while easing the financial burden it would have placed on my family.
In addition to having affordable graduate programs, Baruch College has received statewide and national recognition. The school has been ranked as the #1 public institution in New York City and New York State while being the #4 public institution in the nation on Forbes’s list of “America’s Best Value Colleges 2019.” In terms of return of investment, CNBC has ranked Baruch #4 out of 25 public universities according to its list of “The Top 50 US Colleges That Pay Off the Most.” These are some of the many acknowledgements which show that Baruch offers high-quality education at an affordable cost. When I see these rankings, I am confident that I will greatly benefit from being a Baruch undergraduate and eventually a graduate student.
I know I will make the most of my education at Baruch. I benefit financially and academically as a Baruch student. The undergraduate and MS in Finance programs will help me excel in my career as a financial analyst as well as in my personal life.
