Cloud Computing in Schools by Matthew - February 2018 Scholarship Essay

While I have been in school, new ways of teaching and learning have been implemented in an attempt to make learning easier and the means of teaching a more efficient process. Often I have felt like a guinea pig being tested on to see what works and what does not but it is not without purpose however. I have found, more recently in high school years, that classes that utilize electronic devices and classroom programs --more specifically cloud computing-- are the best for easy learning, teaching, and most importantly for me, storage and organization. This technology that is steadily improving every year will likely be an essential part of education in 2038 and beyond that as well.
About a decade ago the mentality of most school students and teachers was paper and pencil, but that way of thinking has gradually changed as technology has improved today. I hardly find myself ever actually writing out a paper or anything for that matter, instead, I'm typing it and having to save it. This is why cloud computing has become so useful. Cloud computing is simply storing and accessing data and programs over the internet instead of your computer's hard drive. I will admit that I was reluctant at first to cloud storage, but as I was able to use it more I began to trust it more.
My school doesn't have a universal way of cloud computing but we do have many cloud programs that have proven to be very useful such as google drive. This is where I store many of my homework assignments for my english classes, I use it for a history club that I'm involved with and I can use to write essays that will be automatically saved without having to use a program such as Microsoft Word which requires me to save items to the hard drive on the computer I'm currently using. This, to me, can be particularly annoying because I'm not the most organized person so before I started using cloud computing I often found my papers missing because I couldn't find its saved name or I wasn’t using a personal computer so it was difficult to get on the exact same one that I was on the previous work day.
All things considered I anticipate that cloud computing will develop into something every student and teacher will rely on. The benefits it offers such as its easy accessibility and its capacity for documents and other related items make it perfect for schools anywhere that has access to this technology. Additionally it has just begun to make its mark in schools around the world and will likely develop into a technological resource seen not only in learning environments but in other occupations making it hard to imagine that it will not be a large technological necessity in schools by the year of 2038.
