The Beginnings of Greatness by Mason - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
“Hello Mr. Einstein, or would you prefer I call you Albert?
“Your brilliance has succeeded you, I constantly hear of it.
“From your E=MC^2 all the way to your ideas on the photoelectric effect,
“Future generations question your success on each subject
“That you set your mind to, though honestly, we can’t object.
“For you’ve been right for oh so long, we no longer suspect
“That you may have simply had a stroke of luck upon a guess.
“Every student, be it big or small, has spoke of things complex,
“And sought for answers through the use of things for us you’ve left.
“While some may turn away, I’m sure they never will forget
“That you’re the greatest mind, from throughout time, and how humbly you stepped
“Into your role, despite being told, from Strehl to Hjalmar Mellin
“That the Theory of Relativity was founded on nothing but a whim.
“Through the attacks about your mind and heritage alike,
“I’m proud to say I quote your claims on insanity and the like.
“You say it’s defined as repetition; and while you may be right,
“On this one point I must bring some questions into light.
“Now I may not be the smartest man, but please just hear me out:
“I have pondered on this question for so long, my brain feels stout.
“So since I have you with this plate of wonderfully grilled trout,
“I only learned to cook so well by practice, there’s no doubt!
“So I ask you now, unfurrow my brow, is my logic wrong?
“Through such repetition, the trout that now glistens, is proof my question strong.”
