Essence by Maryland - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

Communication is vital among all, it integrates ideals and beliefs that would hinder in an oblivious community. One may encounter endless possibilities with a simple, “Hello.”
History revolves around conversations. The leaders we admire from today and decades ago enabled communication in ways that shaped the country we call home. However, among the several leaders that interpreted communication for the good in society, Richard Nixon wins in a landslide.
Dinner with Richard Nixon would be a flamboyant gesture due to his effective use of communication upon others. Nixon falls into my date night category simply because he was the first president to have diplomatic affairs overseas with China. This accomplishment enabled the United States to gain an insight on the well-being of other nations and ease Cold War tensions. In addition, I’d like to converse with Nixon over the several accomplishments he did while being in office that hindered in the midst of the Watergate scandal. I’d like to gain insight on the political and personal stand Nixon had upon the negativity that arose upon newspapers and history textbooks. The Watergate scandal is an intriguing topic to bring at the dinner table due to the effect it had upon society, it promoted political disorder. Not only did Nixon enable communication for the better, he failed to accomplice it in the midst of negativity. The question that compels me to ask Richard Nixon is, “Could communication have saved him?” A question to be answered later at the dinner table.
Moreover, Richard Nixon was a leader that interpreted communication in ways that no other president has done so far and a dinner with him would be an honor upon my behalf.
