My New Year's Resolution by Mary - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
New Year’s Resolutions are goals we set at the beginning of each new year in order to benefit ourselves. These resolutions may be anything from making a goal to stop smoking to wanting to read more in the upcoming year. Some of the most important resolutions for students though, are the ones that will help them do better in school. For my New Year’s Resolution, I want to stop procrastinating.
Procrastination is a habit that is very hard to beat, especially when it is a habit you have had for years and years. Putting off work until the last minute creates a multitude of problems. Not only does it lower the overall quality of the work, but it also allows less time for editing. These things alone can lead to a lower grade, and if procrastination is a trend it can lower your overall grade in a class. Also, rushing to finish an assignment can affect your mental and physical health, seeing as you will be under more stress and get less sleep because you are worried about finishing your assignment.
By eliminating procrastination from my life, I will not only see the results in my grade point average, but in other aspects of my life as well. In the future it will help me at my job and financially it will help me make payments on time and avoid late fees. If I am no longer a procrastinator I will be more successful as a student and as a young person entering the world on their own for the first time.
