Monroe by Mary - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
Between the past couple of years I had wonderful teachers, but there is one specific teacher who stood out the most to me. When I think of a good teacher I think of someone who cares for the students, helps their class, and challenges them to become better. This past year I had many teachers who stood out to me that way but the one who stood out the most was my anatomy teacher, Ms. Monroe. I want to be a future Pediatrician and Ms. Monroe helped me see that I can do anything if I put hard effort into achieving that goal.
Ms. Monroe was an excellent teacher, we kept notebooks that always needed to be organized, neat and up to date. She would have us turn in our notebooks at the end of a topic before we moved on. Ms. Monroe would give us a second chance if we didn't do so well or turn it in on time. Also before we turned in our notebooks we would need to create a one pager on what we learned. In my notebook at the end of the lymph nodes section I drew a picture of a man and put marks on the different spots where the lymph nodes are. One of my friends created a poem that talked about the different things the lymph nodes do and what the human body needs them for. My class was the Honors class and the class who had the most IB students, so Ms. Monroe always expected the most from us, she always challenged us to be creative on anything we do and go above the expectations. On test our class usually would earn the highest class average. Before test she would play a game of Jeopardy to quiz us over the topic we just learned, then the next day we would take the test and the people who paid attention would get the highest scores on the test.
Ms. Monroe left an impression on me because when I struggled she was there to catch me when I messed up, and made sure all her students were doing well. If you failed or did bad on a test she sign you up for tutorial to help her students pass her class, because she knows that her students will be the future. Since Ms. Monroe taught anatomy she knew that the students she taught would be future doctors and figuring out how to cure cancer so she always put pressure on us and helped us work in groups.
To conclude, Ms, Monroe is my outstanding tutor who was there for me when I needed help, she challenged me to become better, and she knew my potential.
