Once, I asked my physiology and anatomy teacher of why he did not turn to become a nurse or a doctor. He responded saying he does not only have the stomach to see blood every day, but he believes he does not have the personality as well. I’ve always been interested with the career so I wanted to experience it myself.
To be an extraordinary nurse means more than just taking care of patients. There is a huge difference between a nurse who enjoys being at work compared to one who dragged him or herself there. A good nurse arrives with an enthusiastic attitude and a radiant smile. Even more than that, however, a nurse must be patient, empathetic, and an amazing communicator.
A patient nurse will be able to serve the patient despite the condition and attitude given to them. Nurses who get frustrated easily won’t offer such quality service. During my volunteering at the hospital, I learned there is a satisfying feeling of relief after helping a patient and it only takes small amount of patience.
An empathetic person is very compassionate and kind, so an empathetic nurse will show positive attitude toward the patients. Along with the nurse's selflessness, the patient will feel the love and devotion the hospital has to offer. This relates to me because I’d rather see my love ones smile rather than myself.
Great communication skills would also be an excellent quality for a nurse. When a nurse is able to create a conversation with the patients, the patient will feel safe and comforted. With this trait, nurses will be able to follow directions without a problem because they can easily communicate with the patients. Many say that I have a very outgoing personality. It includes being a people person and I enjoy seeing people smile.
Because of that teacher, I no longer doubt myself of what my personality is capable of doing. I will continue pursuing that career and I will be satisfied.
