Using Flashcards to Study by Mary - May 2016 Scholarship Essay
I have never been the best at studying. While I somehow tend to make decent grades (typically mostly A’s with a couple of B’s), it took me a while to figure out one method of studying which worked well for me. After a lot of trails and errors, I learned that using flashcards helps me the most when studying for finals.
With flashcards, I am able to write a question or a word on one side of the card and the answer or definition on the other side. This way, I can practice over and over again until I know the information. I can also mix up the order so that I am not simply memorizing what question comes next; instead, I am truly learning the lesson.
Using flashcards also allows me to learn the information in many different ways. I can visually see it, as it is written down. I can also read it out loud so that I am hearing it. I can draw pictures on the cards or use different colors to categorize the information so that it stands out to me and stays in my memory.
While there are many great ways to study for finals, flashcards provide an easy, organized way to review what I have learned throughout the year. Hopefully this method will not let me down during my upcoming finals!
