Back In My Day by Mary - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
Back in my day as an underclassman, I was tormented daily by the upperclassmen. I walked on the wrong side of the hallways, I was crazy about deadlines and due dates, and don't even get me started on my hair (it was a mess). I thought my friend group from junior high would stay together until we were seniors. Unfortunately rumors and stress and different courses caused us all to slowly drift apart. And that occurrence was probably the best thing to ever happen to us. Not everyone would get along all of the time and tensions always ran high. With certain people out of my life, my stress level went way down. Not that who I hung around were bad people, we just had incompatible personalities. I wish them success in everything they do. With maturity comes reason and with reason comes understanding. Would it have been nice for everyone to stay friends and get along? Of course! But it isn't realistic. And that is okay.
When deadlines are approaching, freshmen tend to freak out. They panic and stress. Seniors do it too so there's really not much I can say about that.
All anyone going into high school or leaving high school needs to do is chill. Everything will work out for the best. Maybe not in the way you want it to work out, but maybe it'll be better for you in the end. Smile. Work hard. Do your best.
