“What lessons learned in 2022 will impact your goals for 2023?” by Marvin - December 2022 Scholarship Essay
Without a doubt 2022 proved to be a historical year that will be conversed about for decades to come. Innovations in technology and livelihood have been established throughout the course of this year. The outcome of these global advancements result in a growing capability for the new era while Allowing more convenient accessibility for the present generation we all dwell in today. Throughout the course of each year its vital that we revise what we’ve learned. After re-evaluating the lessons each year, the next step should be to create goals to accomplish for the following year. Together we’re all recovering from the recent pandemic that plagued the entire human race. Therefore I’ve detailed some personal lessons that will help positively impact my goals for the upcoming 2023 year.
Time management is an important skill that can help you be more productive, efficient, and effective in both your personal and professional life. Evidently this lesson helped prepare me for success throughout the entirety of this year. During my senior year in highschool I utilized time management to maintain a 3.8 GPA, while being a student athlete. Managing my time wisely allowed me to reduce stress, improve focus, and achieve academic and athletic goals easily. Utilizing the most of my time resulted in my productivity to make connections and improve in multiple areas of my livelihood. In short, the time management skills I grasped assisted in my success for this year and will continue to in the following year to come.
Another valuable lesson that I found beneficial during 2022 was the power of consistency. Maintaining consistency can have a number of benefits, both in your personal life and in your professional life. By maintaining a consistent routine this year, It allowed me to complete more tasks in a shorter amount of time, Increase my sense of control, and discipline. Consistency provided a sense of control that I desperately needed in my life. During this year my implementation of consistency resulted in worthwhile results that empowered me physically,mentally, and intellectually. Seeing the results I’ve received this year will motivate me to reciprocate these lessons and reciprocate my accomplishments from this year to achieve my goals in 2023.
Finally, Adapting to being uncomfortable is a lifesaving lesson that proved to be useful in a variety of situations I experienced this year. Acknowledging discomfort is truly a difficult task that requires perseverance. My main focus was to recognize the discomfort I felt either at work, school, or in athletics and force myself to adapt. Experiencing comfort is normal because it is a natural part of feeling secure. Although adapting to being uncomfortable demonstrates growth and determination to change. Reframing the discomfort I undergo as a student athlete presented an opportunity for growth and learning. There were times in 2022 when I didn't want to complete homework or wake up early for powerlifting and track practice before school. Although battling laziness and making an effort to be uncomfortable each time evidently contributed to getting better each time. Overall, I will continue to remind myself that being uncomfortable is a state of mind that I’m always able to adapt and overcome. Over the course of 2023 I look forward to demonstrating these beneficial qualities throughout the entirety of the upcoming new year.
