Opportunity by Marshall - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

The definition of opportunity is a "set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something." I know its easy to say that that I'm walking into a new era of my life and that moving into the next chapter of my life, but I don't see it like that. I see college as something more. I don't see it as an extension of my life so far. I see college as my first opportunity to make something up of my talents. Up to this point in my educations career I have gotten an idea of what I'm good, but I haven't put that in practice yet. High School has prepared me to explore different areas to ensure my uttermost success. This is that bridge of opportunity that leads me to my ultimate destination. Through college I will be able to expose and use my talent to the best of my ability. It has so much opportunity. The possibilities are endless.
Beyond that, college can be more than discovering what you want to do for the rest of your life. College is about discovering yourself and figuring out who you want to be, where you want to go, and who you want to surround yourself with. I think this is an amazing thing because you can control all of these things, none of it is out of our grasp. It is up to me to put forth the effort to do good in school and reap the benefits. It is up to me to surround myself with people who will encourage and inspire me to reach my full potential. Most of all, college is the stepping stone that that really shows you who are. I am a firm believer that people can change whenever they put forth the effort. But I also believe that college is setting yourself up for the real world, in that, college allows you to develop habits and practices that you will use in the real world.
