As a science-based thinker, I learn through tactile investigation and engaging with concepts through experiments and hands-on activities that enhance my understanding of complex concepts in a way that memorization cannot. With my deep-rooted curiosity about how things work in the real world and my favorite questions being How? and Why?, its no wonder I thrive in experiential learning opportunities. This type of learning allows me to actively participate in processes that bring lessons to life and solidify my understanding and retention of the subject matter.
My recent experience as a volunteer at the local zoo has been a testament to the effectiveness of experiential learning. I am gaining a deeper appreciation for animal care and conservation as this hands-on involvement allows me to witness the intricacies of animal husbandry. The opportunity to share this knowledge with zoo visitors reinforces my learning through articulation and repetition, which also strengthens my own understanding of these concepts.
The value of hands-on, experiential learning cannot be overstated. For students like me, who thrive on direct interaction with the material, this approach offers a more effective and enjoyable way to understand complex concepts and engage with the subject matter in a way that fosters a deeper connection and lasting comprehension.
