College Experience by Mark - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

College. Independence, learning, friends, moving out, activities. As high school seniors look to the future, these are but a few of the things to which we look forward. As I look at these things, I think there are only a few that I will look back on and be truly thankful for. Two of those things are the preparation for my future career, and the test to see how I do living on my own.
Being at college means furthering my education, and by doing so, I will have the skills necessary to begin a successful career. The area that I would like to go into is computer science. This career has a skill set that I can easily learn on my own at home, but being taught by those who are experts in this field is an experience that will benefit my life very much. I will get to learn from the wisdom of their past experiences – learning what to and what not to do in this field. The professors are experts in their field, and they are willingly teaching those of less experience. What a great opportunity and why not take advantage of that and use it for the benefit of my future? That is exactly what I am striving for in pursuing a further education. When I graduate from college, I will most definitely be thankful for the knowledge of my career field that I have gained – which will help me in so many areas of my life down the road.
Like most other eighteen-year old’s, moving out is just on the horizon and the stress of having to figure everything out is looming ominously. In college, I am basically on my own, and this test will show how I will do later in life. I am looking forward to this because I am excited to see what I can do. I understand that in college I will have very little funds for anything except things directly related to school, but that is just part of the test. After I am done with college, I can look back and be thankful for this test because it will give me an idea of what life is like on my own, and I can use this when I am actually on my own.
When I am done and graduated, I will look back and be thankful for a few things. The biggest of those would be the opportunity that I had to learn underneath experts of my field and being able to use their knowledge for the betterment of my future. The other would be the experience and the skills gained from living on my own and now knowing how to use those skills to create a great life.
