Education: The Key to Success for the Human Race by Marjory - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

As a person decides what their next step is in life, the first thing to consider is the quality of education needed to achieve their goals. Many professions exist, all of which need at least some form of education. The purpose of education is for the human race to succeed. Being educated is preparation for life, allows society to advance, and without it society would fall apart.

Education prepares individuals to survive life. From elementary school and on, people learn how to communicate, how finances work, and about the world around them. Teachers show students how to read, write, type and speak so they can receive and relay messages, ask questions and gain more knowledge. Learning about finances teaches individuals about economics, budgets, and savings. Discovering the world around them enables comprehension of community systems. Students realize the universe expands much further than one planet. They also find out how life and death works, as well as more basic things such as water and sunlight being needed for plants to grow.

The more educated society becomes, the more opportunities it has to grow as a whole. By learning what mistakes happened in the past, people are able to avoid repeating errors in human history. They are able to see causes and effects of horrible tragedies and prevent them from reoccurring. Researchers are also able to find ways to cure illness and learn what causes unnatural deaths in the world. Preventative measures can be taken that will not only increase longevity, but will also improve quality of life. Learning to cooperate with community members also creates the ability to have and run a society in the first place. Without learning this vital ability structure would not be possible and the world would be in chaos.

If no one was educated, then society would crumble. Without any form of education, no one would understand how to communicate with one another or how to learn from mistakes made in history. There would not be any form of structure and wars would constantly break out (given they could even fight without pre-given knowledge). Disease would spread without any cures or preventative medications being created. There would not be a form of treatment for ailments. Any profession imaginable would not be possible, including doctors, teachers and leaders. The human race would eventually die off due to lack of knowledge on how to cooperate with one another, be unable to learn how to even grow food, or incapable of doing anything needed to sustain life.

The purpose of education is to ensure humans can function in the world around them. It affects every aspect of how we live life. Knowledge is needed to ensure survival and improve quality of life. Without any form of education, the human race would cease to exist as we know it.
