How 2016 Will Make Me a Better Student by Marissa - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

Every New Year’s Eve, millions of people make hopeful resolutions for the New Year with just about every intention to follow through with them. From deciding to get a gym membership to getting more sleep at night, each of these resolutions varies person to person. This year, as the clock struck midnight, I decided to chose a resolution that would not only benefit my daily life, but also my student life. This year I will not procrastinate. That was it. The sentence that will hopefully change my year for the better. And I have every intention of keeping it.
One reason I chose this resolution was because of my history of procrastination. I normally wait until the last minute for everything. I get everything done on time and to the best of my ability, but the amount of stress I put on myself to get the task done on time is strenuous. If I start work at noon, I will put off getting ready for as long as I can. I also put off doing the dishes in hopes that someone else will see the sinkful and find the motivation I sometimes lack. In this past year, I have definitely procrastinated less than years before. I complete my homework the day it is assigned instead of the night before it is due. I hope that this resolution carries well into my college experience and makes me a better student. I want to have that initial motivation to complete all of my work and set aside the time to do so. I do not want to spend college cramming my best work in at the last minute. This resolution will help change my work ethic as well. I plan on taking the initiative and offering to do jobs and tasks that are necessary but go out of my way to complete them.
All in all, this resolution will change my student life and daily life by challenging myself to complete many tasks on time and well before they are due. I look forward to all the things I will accomplish this year.
