The Purpose of Education by Marissa - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
The purpose of an education is to inspire, empower, and continue to work through various resources and people. There is one thing I have learned about education that has always stuck with me: education is a cycle. For example, the more I learn, the more I can pass on that knowledge to others around me, which they will then pass on to those around them, etc. This has empowered me more than I can express. The idea that what I learn can continue to be invaluable to countless others is extremely important to me. It is this very idea that has inspired one of my biggest goals in life, and that is studying English and creating teachers for students who desperately need them in underprivileged areas in the world. By using what I have learned to educate more teachers, they will be able to educate their students, who can use the knowledge they have gained to assist others who need the very same things they did. Quality education showed me this cycle, and it has empowered me to find new ways to make a difference in everyday lives.
In my opinion, my experience with education, which is what formed this opinion to begin with, exemplifies the real meaning of what education is here to do. Education should not stop with one person or one idea; it must be pushed and expanded on endlessly. That is, after all, why we have education in the first place.
