My Algebra Passion by Marissa - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
I would teach algebra because the subject really interests me. When I took the subject Junior year, I truly had a great experience. My positive experience was mainly due to the teacher. Her teaching style and compassion for students contributed to my rewarding experience, great relationship with her, and mastering the subject.
Teaching algebra would allow me to pass my knowledge of this subject to those who need to learn the material or need improvement in this subject. I would be proud to make a difference in a young student’s life, similar to how my algebra teacher made a difference in my own life.
My teaching ability would also benefit from my recent student experience. Because I know what it is like to be a student in school, I would able to relate to their school experience and be able to understand what students deal with, as well as the challenges they face.
I have a passion for algebra because of my positive experience taking this subject in high school. Doing what I love is the main reason for my desire to teach algebra. Also I am very good in this subject matter. I had a wonderful teacher who was loved by all her students. It was inspirational for me being a student in her class. Teaching algebra would hopefully allow me to pass this exceptional teaching style onto other students and make an impact on them, just as my algebra teacher has to me. If I am half the teacher she was, I could make many students algebra experience positive and amazing.
