Education is Chance and Opportunity by Marisa - October 2022 Scholarship Essay

Monday through Friday we follow a similar routine. Everyday we sit at a desk, read books, listen to lectures and do worksheets. Sometimes this routine becomes repetitive, but it's an opportunity that opens our world to possibilities. Education is one of the most valuable privileges of our lives and it's often taken for granted. To me, education is a chance and an opportunity. My goal with my education is to earn a career where I can better the lives of others.
I will be graduating high school this year and I have significantly grown as a person and student. My education brought me opportunities I never imagined possible and helped me discover who I was.
As an eighth grade student, I have always been interested in science, english and math. But I really wasn’t sure which career would be perfect for me. I was fortunate to be raised in a school district that offered a technical high school. I decided to attend a technical school instead of a comprehensive traditional high school.
Throughout my freshman year, we received education about each technical area offered at my school. I discovered that some technical areas like carpentry, engineering and cosmetology were really interesting but they weren’t the best fit for me. However, I loved my school's Allied Health Department. I was able to choose from three programs, a dental assistant, medical assistant and certified nursing assistant program. After a tough decision, I chose the certified nursing assistant program. I was fortunate that my nursing assistant program helped me discover my passions.
Through my nursing assistant education, I discovered that I loved patient focused care, helping residents with their activities of daily living and learning about various conditions. This educational chance helped me discover my desire to pursue nursing as a career. At my school, I was able to earn my certified nursing assistant certification and get a job at a local nursing home. I am very thankful for this opportunity as it helped reinforce my love for nursing. This program helped me discover that I wanted to pursue a career in nursing.
I have several plans for the future and I am very privileged to be in a position where I can attend a four year university. I am currently applying to college for nursing in hopes of eventually becoming a nurse practitioner. Education provides us with many opportunities. My education helped me discover my love and desire to be a nurse. Also, my technical education gave me a chance to discover interests that I never knew about myself. I am very thankful for my education and the opportunities it has brought me.
Not everyone is offered the same opportunities and have access to the same resources. I am very thankful for these opportunities presented to me and how I grew as a person.
