The elective class I believe that should be a required class is Child Development. I personally have taken this class, and first hand I believe that this class is important.
The topics this class covers are the different types of pregnancy, how to have protected sex, how to take care of a baby through their toddler years, and the different types of profession that are associated with children.
These topics are very important to cover now because unfortunately there are a lot of teen pregnancies occurring in high schools. So taking this class will not only prepare the females but also the males on how to have protected sex, how to navigate yourself or others through pregnancy, and how to care for children.
I know many people at my high school personally who are pregnant, and are scared. But if they were to take this class, they would be mentally prepared on what to do.
But this class also helps people who want to become a preschool or elementary teacher in the future. They will learn a bunch about a child's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive abilities and how to properly teach a child. How to teach certain ages because every age is very different when it comes to children.
So this course not only provides supports for the women on how to care for their body, but also for those who want to pursue child education in the future.
