Why I Would Want to Meet Obama by Mariah - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

Barack Obama would be the president that I would want to meet. Seeing an African American president really empowers and influences so many minorities, like myself. The most important decision that I believe Obama has made was creating DACA, some people may not like the idea, agree to disagree. This helped so many young children and adults that I know personally and gave them an opportunity and a chance to get an education and a chance to get a job and live in the United States. My own uncle was an immigrant and with the help of Obama being president he was able to get his DACA card and was able to work. Of course, this was not the only great and beneficial thing he’s done, but the list goes on. If I were to meet him I would thank him for giving my own relatives this opportunity to live with us and to create a better life for ourselves.

I would thank him for focusing more on our education and helping the children of the United States to get a better education. Obama has always been for education, making it a top priority during his administration. Believing education is what brings about the strength of a nation. He has increased federal funding and doubled the amount of grant money allocated to students seeking a higher education to cover rising tuition costs. During his presidency, Obama also passed the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African-Americans and the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics to ensure equal education for people of color.

He left a legacy of helping the people of the United States and his legacy is one of kindness and grace. He really thought about the people and he also lowered the unemployment rate in America by giving more people jobs and creating more jobs as well. He really did what was best for this country. He is for The People, he cares about what is best for the greater good and always tries his hardest. He truly does represent The People. His actions have always been motivated by a desire to do what is best for the majority, even if it meant losing ground with the wealthy, influential or powerful minority.

Overall Obama created a legacy in Presidential History. He was close to the people of America and cared about the people more than himself. He gave everyone an opportunity to work and get jobs. As Obama stated during his celebration speech , change had come to America , a change we so desperately needed. While I acknowledge he has made a number of mistakes in recent years, I stand firm in my belief that Barack Obama is one of the greatest presidents America has ever seen. I believe history will prove this, and with time, he will be remembered in history as a revered revolutionary. He is a real role model and if I would meet him I would say thank you for changing America for the better
