Business and Family by Maria - May 2023 Scholarship Essay

For many generations in my family, we started from nothing and steadily grew with their businesses. My father, who is my motivation and holds my respect with his story, grew up in Egypt with ten other siblings in poverty. He started working when he was the age of 10 being a barber. He stuck with what he knew and worked hard every day. At the age of 16, he was able to get to his studio and was on the clock majority of the day and would sleep in that studio. After many years he slowly raised money to purchase a bigger studio and bring in workers. As a result of his hard work, he reached famous people such as rappers, singers, and actors to be his customers. His story has stuck with me my whole life because he officially made it with many doubts and disbelief from others.
Once he got a family he did not want us to grow up that way for that reason he left everything he build for almost thirty years and moved to America. While being away from his family his mother died and lost the strong bonds he had with his brothers and sisters. However, he did not lose motivation every day to go to work, learn English, and being a father of 4. He still works as hard to this day to inspire us and give us the life he had dreamed of having.
The business mind is what I've always been told that I have, just like my father. He doesn't like the idea of us working for someone else's business when we can build our own. I found love and interest in real estate and started a dual enrollment program in my senior year of high school. I'm going to WCTC to earn my real estate undergrad and transfer my credits over to UW-Milwaukee to study marketing. I would say that my journey has already started and my dad has been next to me the whole way. I also found interest in being my own boss and building my schedule.
