Lessons Learned in 2022 that will impact my goals by Maria - December 2022 Scholarship Essay

In 2022 I learned that, in order to advance as a society and as individuals, it is important to learn. As a student and a lifelong learner, I have come to realize that even the littlest things can teach us the biggest lessons. As humans, we are capable of learning from anyone and anything, as long as we keep an open mind. I believe that learning allows individuals to develop critical thinking skills. It also allows us to find new ways to interact with people from various cultural backgrounds. As a child of two immigrants, my parents have always stressed the importance of education. This is because they wanted me to acquire knowledge that will help me become successful in my career.
Just as education fosters personal growth, continuous learning is essential for success. Learning is not just limited to books or a course that I study. Everyday encounters and activities become influential in my learning experience. The future is open to endless possibilities. Nobody truly knows what will be utilized or not. Knowledge is increased through problem-solving in more ways than most people understand. Moreover, many young individuals do not know what they want to do with their lives immediately. I am a prime example. In high school, I absolutely hated politics. I genuinely believed that it divided individuals and brought out the worst in people. My mindset towards the subject shifted once I took a political science class in my first year of college. Before I realized it, my mind had become so open and intrigued by a subject I had previously detested. This experience led me to change my major to political science and inspired me to pursue a Juris Doctorate.
I plan to continue my learning experience by accepting new experiences, new ideas and setting goals for myself. It is important to find a reason why you need to acquire new knowledge.
When you have a reason for doing something, it is easier to devote time and effort to it.
Starting with small goals and then building on them as time progresses, I plan to establish connections and use what I have learned for self-improvement. Although at times it can be hard to push yourself and learn new things, being aware that you are doing so to become a better person, can go a long way. Continuous learning is crucial because it keeps people's minds sharper as they age and also provides intellectual fulfillment, making them feel happier and more productive in their work and lives.
