College Major by maria - February 2013 Scholarship Essay

My college major is International Studies. I chose this because i want to learn more about other countries and cultures. I do not want to live comfortably with just focusing on myself I want to learn other countries and their problems and if I could do anything to help them. I am 17 years old and i know 3 languages fluently and am currently learning another foreign language. I know the importance of learning foreign languages and how it could benefit me in the future. I choose this major because it will broaden my horizons even more and help me learn about more cultures. Most importantly I find it fascinating learning about other countries, whether it is about their culture, language, history or anything I really enjoy doing this.  This major will lead me to become more culturally enriched.  I am looking forward to perhaps living abroad working in an embassy or possibly as a translator for United Nations.  Studying about international studies will open new doors for me and I will not be limited with just earning a living in U.S, I will be open to the whole world. I have always been interested in other cultures. I want to study abroad and I know it will not be a challenge for me to adjust because I am culturally accepting of others and I have experienced living in a foreign country before. The reason why I am so interested in international studies is because international countries are unique from mine, I find it so intriguing and I never lose focus or find anything else that has grabbed my attention more than international studies. I can spend hours studying a country and not get bored. I know I will fully enjoy my major in college because of this.
