The Combination of Passion and Education by Margo - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

Throughout high school, we were taught that education was the knowledge we acquired from reading, writing, and studying subjects that were placed before us. We were recognized as “educated” when we have passed all the necessary tests and evaluations. As I continued my schooling at university, I broadened my horizons—taking classes outside of my major, joining clubs, a sorority. I took meteorology and found great interest in it. Getting out of bed for the class was never a drag, the work was fascinating, all resulting in exams being fairly easy for me. I joined UDress, a magazine written by our student body. Going to meetings was one of the best days of my week. I was excited to learn about different steps of processing a new issue. Through the magazine, I met girls that convinced me to rush a sorority. After joining my sorority, there was a whole 8-week introduction through which we were taught about our chapter, our rituals, and our history. I was also enthusiastic to go to our pledge meetings, ready to explore what we would be taught next. Being open and eager to learn in these scenarios is what has helped me chose my career path, and become a beneficial member of my college community.
My freshman year of college has taught me that every individual has a passion for education. Some may find it through books, and others may find it through the development of skills. You find your passion for education when you feel enthusiastic about getting out of bed in the morning and committed to discovering more about a certain matter. Having this excitement about education is the driving force behind ambition and success. The willingness to dive in, and reap every ounce of knowledge is how we propel ourselves forward through the chapters of our lives.
