Find what works for you. by Margaux - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
I was in English class when my teacher started talking about how to annotate your book correctly, and before I dozed off, he said “You just have to find what works for you.” Granted, I didn’t jerk my head up and look at him in wonder as if he had just uttered the single most important thing in the world (I actually just continued my slow descent to unconsciousness), but that little lesson stuck with me. Find what works for you. This can be applied to taking notes or annotating a book, but also to the infamous bigger picture. You have to find what works for you in college, when choosing your classes and waiting for your passion to hit you so you can say Aha! Now I know what to major in! To find what works for you, you have to sample a bit of everything, try as much as you can before you can make up your mind, and this I exactly what I plan to do in college. I plan to take a diverse range of classes so I can find what best suits me. Finding what works for you is also applicable for every single big decision you can make: where you want to live, what job you want, and more.
That year, I am proud to say that through my color-coded highlighting and little scribbled notes, I got an A on my book annotation. All because I found what worked for me.
