Varsity Tutor Scholarship by Marcus - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
The most important lesson I have learned from a teacher is to always work hard and have an influential impact on the people you interact with. If you are consistent in approaching each day with your best effort, then the results will eventually show. It may not be as soon as you like but it will come. As the first person in my immediate family to go to college, I intend for my younger two siblings to follow in my footsteps and pursue a higher level of education. I take joy in setting an example and being a role model for my younger siblings because I know it will lead them down a successful path. One of my most recent academic achievements that I am most proud of is making the Presidents list first semester of my freshman year. The transition from high school to college can be difficult for many incoming freshman students because of the different challenges one has to face, but I remained focused and kept my discipline to aid me in any task that was at hand throughout the semester. I believe education is the key to success in life, and the more knowledge one gains, the more power he or she possesses.
Currently, I am double majoring in Finance and Accounting to ultimately earn a Master’s degree. To help me with this goal, I plan to pursue more resources and knowledge each day about being a professional in the business field. This includes the financial aspect of my job and determining my worth to the company or employer. In order for this to happen, I have to be willing to put forth the time and effort to stand out amongst my peers. My long term goal after gaining expertise knowledge and experience in the business world is to have a business of my own. This would allow me to be my own boss and to oversee my employees being treated fairly. I would have the luxury in shaping the business culture and making critical decisions for the direction of the company in the future. Additionally, I would be applying the things I have learned to hopefully see one of my peers to be the CEO of their own business. I would want my company to create a name for itself and become a globalized brand that has a positive impact in the world we live in. Personally, there is nothing better to follow your passion, be successful through your own ideas and feel pride in building something of your own.
In conclusion, everyone has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream but everyone will not attain it because they are too lazy to put the work in. Your persistence to overcome obstacles along the journey has to be second to none and you need to have an incredible work ethic. When you obtain these two things, nothing can stop you from reaching your dream. That is why I am currently working so hard now to get where I want to be in the future. The relationships you build with people, the knowledge you possess, and the experiences you go through in college are irreplaceable. As a result of interacting with different people across the country or from different countries it can open the door for future networking relationships. It is truly humbling yet satisfying to know that everything cannot be handed to you on a silver platter. You have to work extremely hard for what you want, because when you do, you are reminded how far you have came to get to where you are and being rewarded for it is a significant bonus. I will always be thankful and appreciative for my teacher teaching me this valuable lesson.
