Stop talking, it's my turn to teach. by Marc - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

Throughout my life, I have always been interested in the history of America and, just the history of America, nothing else. I don’t care about any other type of history because that just doesn’t interest me in any way whatsoever. I would teach American History only because that’s what kids in school should know about, and they should know what has happened in their country. Me being me, I always loved talking about the Civil War, the American Revolutionary War, and both World Wars. When it came to other countries’ history and Roman history, I just simply didn’t care to learn about it. Teachers that used to teach history to me would always say, “Marc you're not going to like this unit.” I knew exactly what they were talking about and why I wouldn’t like it. That is why, when my senior year came, I took a Civil War class. That is my favorite history subject and this is why I would teach American History only.
I have already told you why I would teach American History and I am not going to ramble on why all of the other histories are not important anymore. I will tell you this, if I was going to teach American History, I would mostly talk about the Civil War because this is the bloodiest battle in America. We fought and killed each other and that just doesn't make sense. Teaching students on why the Civil War was the bloodiest battle would be awesome. Telling them all about why the Civil War happened and why the South wanted to leave the Union would just be amazing. This would truly make me feel good about my job because I would be teaching students about American History! Not all of that other crap. I understand that other country's history is important but I just don't care for it. I find that if you know more about your own country, you are better off in many things that you do in life.
Now to be more serious, I enjoy history because it has already happened and you can learn from it. History has taught people many different lessons. Some lessons that are good and some lessons that are bad. History in many ways can help you predict the future from the things that are learned in the past. It helps you learn from the mistakes that have happened and it can help you learn how to be better from what happened. I think of history on a deeper level. Mistakes are good to make because you will learn from them and be a better person. Making mistakes isn’t terrible because, like in history, you will learn from them and learn enormous lessons that you get from the problems that you dealt with.
To conclude, if I was to have to teach some kind of subject in any school it would have to be American History. The one big reason is that it has always interested me the most and it always will. I have learned from the mistakes that have happened in history and have used those lessons to help me understand problems that go on in my own life. I think that history just comes natural to me and that history is the most important topic in schools to learn. History will help people of America to understand the issues that we have faced in the past and how to better handle the issues of today.
