Life Changing Decision by Marah - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

One of my best friends died at the start of the year and everything I once knew changed for me. For a moment in life I felt stagnant, lost, really no direction on where I thought my future was going. I had so many ideas as a child thinking that I would be a designer, but as I grew older I also had a sense of fear that I needed to be “reasonable” with my career decisions. Being the first generation child, you need to be the “savior”, the one that people look up to. But through life, I kind of lost myself trying to be who I thought I was supposed to be, until this year. Once my best friend passed something just sparked in me to live for me. Live for who I know I am to my core, live for what makes me happy and that is fashion. As a child, I doodled designs on notebooks and played dress up in my cousin's closet, trying on her high heels and pretending I’m a runway model. But now, I don’t want to pretend anymore. With this Master’s in Luxury and Brand Management I want to be able to have the knowledge and confidence to launch my own luxury fashion company. I want to be able to intensify my knowledge with brand storytelling, strategic marketing, consumer engagement while still having that sense of self that can resonate with my audience. I am excited to build a strong network of like minded professionals and hopefully create an impactful luxury brand that I’m proud to be the owner of.
