where i see myself in 10 years by manuel - March 2025 Scholarship Essay
In 10 years, I see myself as a professional musician, having built a career that merges my passion for music with the opportunity to inspire and connect with others. I envision myself performing on stage, whether as part of a band, an orchestra, or as a solo artist, captivating audiences with my music and sharing my story through every note. I also see myself as a music educator, teaching others how to express themselves through their craft, and mentoring young aspiring musicians, helping them find their voice the way I have. Most importantly, I want to use music to bring people together and create a lasting impact on the world.
A college education in music will be a crucial stepping stone in getting me to this point. The rigorous training and exposure to different genres, techniques, and musical traditions will allow me to grow as a well-rounded musician. The skills I gain will not only refine my technical abilities but also nurture my creativity, helping me to push boundaries and innovate in my field. College will provide me with access to experienced professors, professional networks, and performance opportunities that will open doors to countless possibilities in the music industry.
Beyond the technical aspects, a college education will also help me develop the discipline and work ethic that I will need for a successful career. The demanding nature of a music program will teach me how to manage my time, stay focused under pressure, and continuously strive for improvement. This foundation will be vital as I transition from a student to a professional in the music world, where the stakes are higher, and the competition is fierce.
Additionally, college will allow me to collaborate with like-minded peers who share my passion for music. The relationships I form with fellow students and faculty will create a strong support system and provide opportunities for collaboration, whether it's through performing in ensembles or working on projects together. These experiences will prepare me for a future in which collaboration is key to creating music that resonates with diverse audiences.
Ultimately, my college education will equip me with both the technical skills and the professional mindset needed to succeed in the music industry. Ten years from now, I’ll look back on my time in college as the foundation that helped shape the musician I am and the career I’ve built.
