Hello, my name is Manoah Pitt and let me start off by saying thank you all so much for this scholarship opportunity. Allow me to tell you all a little bit about myself. I graduated from the College of Southern Maryland in May, I am 20 years old, and I currently attend Morgan State University with a major in Multi-Platform Production. I suffer from a learning and emotional disability, so I struggle with learning in a traditional way. I prefer to learn in a non-traditional way because of how my brain processes information. My favorite non-traditional way to learn is threw dance, personal experiences, and online resources. Dance is a very important part of my life and my career, so I am always able to learn new things throughout different forms of movements and choreography. I also love being able to learn while doing something I’m passionate about such as dance. Furthermore, I think that one of the most effective ways for people to learn is through personal experiences. I believe that everything cannot be taught or learned by lectures or classroom discussions, certain things people must experience for them to gain a lesson from it, so I think that personal experiences is a very effective non-traditional way of learning. Personal experiences have defiantly helped me learn better, while also changing my perspective on many things. My last non-traditional way of learning is online resources. I love using online resources to help me learn and gain new knowledge, because the internet is full of information that can help you learn specific things that you may not be taught in or out of the classroom. I use online resources the most out of all the non-traditional ways I described. I love learning from the internet. However, learning online is not always the most effective for me so I wouldn’t prefer to use it all the time, but it is a great way to learn. I am currently learning many things outside of school. I am learning how to edit, film, use cameras, equipment, and lighting. Due to my major being in the Multimedia field of study, I am currently learning about things that apply to that. I really enjoy learning new things and being taught new information and material in and outside of the classroom. I hope to continue to learn traditionally and non-traditionally, and I cannot wait to see what else I learn throughout my next 2 years at Morgan State University.
