Change by Makenzie - June 2013 Scholarship Essay
To me attending college is more than just career, debt, and education; It's a change for me and my family. My family has never been of the wealthy side and probably never will be . To me, my education is something my immediate family depends on. My mother has no means of money to help me with my education, let alone to pay for the littlest things. My mother who is a very hard worker can no longer be any help in the work enviroment. Last January my mom took a fall for the worse and had a heart attack which has left her unable to work her job. Although not all jobs are blue collar and very hard work, thats my mothers only option. Because my mother decided as a young adult to drop out of high school she doesnt have anything to really help her find a job she is capable. My entire life it has been drilled into my head that I was going to finish high school and go to college. Well 17years later i have graduated from high school and committed to a college. Although money is not why i chose to pursue a career in the Pre-Medical field, it definitely did help a little. To me money hasn't always been easy to come by and I really never want to have to worry about it, when I am older and when I have children. I do love my mother dearly but I would like a change from where I was raised. I want to be successful, happy, and sucure. I am not ashamed of my background, but proud. My mother has taught me one very important thing in life, along with many others and that is , if you want something you better work for it more than anything. To me a scholarship of a $1000 would be more than a helping hand in college but a bit of relief. To me attending college is a way of life and change. I can't wait for my future, and this fall to start. I am ready for this change and definitely need it!
