If the Roles were Reversed by Makenzie - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
A Career to Give Back
If the roles were reversed, I would choose Early Childhood Education, Special Education as the academic subject that I would teach. A reason that I would want to teach this is because I have an IEP, which means that I am better learning things hands on, and teaching this would let me give back to the education department. Another reason that I would choose this subject is because I have always wanted to work with kids with disabilities ever since I was in kindergarten. I have been around children like that for twelve years now, so it has always been of interest to me.
Helping children with disabilities has always been something that I have always had a passion for. I have been around a couple of kids with disabilities, like one who has Down’s Syndrome, one is in a wheelchair, and one who is in a walker. I always have loved helping people no matter what. I have done some research on this career and one of the perks for this job is being just like a teacher, so I would work around 8 hours a day, and get the summers off. A downfall to doing this job is the amount of college and money that I would have to take and pay to get a four-year bachelor’s degree.
Mainly, I just want to help children the way my teachers helped me throughout my schooling. If I did not have a teacher that had chosen to be an Early Childhood, Special Education teacher to help explain things to me and take their time with me and not give up on me, then I would have failed miserably. Without the help of my teachers, I would have not succeeded in school and became the person I am today. That is why if the roles were reversed, I would chose to be a Early Childhood, Special Education teacher to help children the way my teachers helped me.
